Founded by financier and producer Sidney Kimmel in 2004, Sidney Kimmel Entertainment is a Los Angeles-based, wholly independent finance and production company focused on financing and producing high profile, quality entertainment projects – in association with studio distribution partners – for global audiences.
SKE chooses its projects with an eye toward the international marketplace, developing and financing intellectual properties both independently and in association with major studios. SKE projects are released globally via domestic and international distribution partners.
Founded in 2004 by producer Sidney Kimmel, SKE has financed and produced more than 40 feature films. SKE has a long history of working collaboratively with leading filmmakers and top-tier talent. SKE releases include the four-time Academy Award-nominated Hell or High Water, starring Jeff Bridges and Chris Pine; the critically-acclaimed Ben Stiller dramedy Brad’s Status; the hit thriller The Lincoln Lawyer, starring Matthew McConaughey; and The Place Beyond the Pines, co-written and directed by Derek Cianfrance, and starring Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper.
In March 2017, SKE announced a merger with the international local-language content company Ivanhoe Pictures, to form SK Global. China Cultural and Entertainment Fund (CCEF), a China-focused private equity fund and prominent investment management company, is taking a substantial equity position in SK Global. The venture is overseen by John Penotti, seasoned President and producer who has led companies such as GreeneStreet Films, Ivanhoe Pictures, and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Together, the new entity will focus on premium content with worldwide reach and local market understanding.
